Emily George

Water is my element. One might say I’m hydrophilic, or simply half mermaid. I am a water fanatic. The world is connected by its oceans; my life is connected by water. East Coast, West Coast, Third Coast. My home is located approximately 1,000 miles from the East Coast, about 2,000 miles from the West Coast, yet I live three miles from the beach. My coast is the great Lake Michigan, the Third Coast, unsalted and without sharks.

In the summer, when I am not working (or traveling), I am at the beach. Though I’m still learning, I tremendously enjoy sailing our Hobie 18 catamaran, as well as testing my balance on our SUP. I also love to kayak, and swim, and hike whenever I can find some mountains. I am happiest when I am outside, especially when I am near water.

I am a student at the University of Richmond, in Richmond, VA (not directly on a coast, but not far!), majoring in Environmental Studies with a minor in Business Administration. I am passionate about raising awareness of ways to protect the beauty of the oceans, and all the life dwelling there. I have grown up with an appreciation for the ocean, a love and respect for its power. I want to create and promote a sustainable environment in order to protect the waters that support us all.
